“The individualist…recognizes the limitations of the powers of individual reason and consequently advocates freedom.” Those who plead for liberty differ…in that they include among the ignorant themselves as well as the wisest.” “All political theories assume…that most individuals are very ignorant. What a free society offers to the individual is much more than what he would be able to do if only he were free.” “Liberty is not merely one particular value…it is the source and condition of most moral values. “Liberty not only means that the individual has both the opportunity and the burden of choice it also means that he must bear the consequences…Liberty and responsibility are inseparable.” “It is always from a minority acting in ways different from what the majority would prescribe that the majority in the end learns to do better.” “Individual liberty…demonstrate that some manners of living are more successful than others.” “The argument for liberty is…an argument…against the use of coercion to prevent others from doing better.” “Coercion is evil precisely because it…eliminates an individual as a thinking and valuing person and makes him a bare tool in the achievement of the ends of another.” “If we wish to preserve a free society, it is essential that we recognize that the desirability of a particular object is not sufficient justification for the use of coercion.” “A society that does not recognize that each individual has values of his own which he is entitled to follow can have no respect for the dignity of the individual and cannot really know freedom.” However, since one of his major contributions has been arguing persuasively for “that condition of men in which coercion of some by others is reduced as much as possible in society,” his understanding of liberty, now in retreat, is particularly worth noting. One cannot compactly summarize Hayek’s contributions of 130 articles and 25 books. No name has been mentioned more often as the source of enlightenment than Friedrich Hayek’s.” Over the years, I have again and again asked fellow believers in a free society how they managed to escape the contagion of their collectivist intellectual environment. Called “the most prodigious classical liberal scholar of the 20th century,” Milton Friedman explained his importance: He will have a chance to transcend and to evolve with some equality for all.May 8th marked Friedrich Hayek’s birthday. For once, man will have a god-like control over his own destiny. So, now Venutians are mating with people in all walks of life in an advisory capacity. Yes! It would be a devastin' blow to our antiquated systems. Now, the result of this has been that the Venutians have contacted people at all walks of life, all walks of life. These leaders - have decided to repress this information because of the tremendous shock that it would cause to our antiquated systems. Now, I mean, we still have leaders upon whom we rely for the release of this information. Why don't they reveal themselves to us - is because if they did, it would cause a general panic. How 'bout that? How 'bout a little of that? I think it's a crackpot idea! I mean, if they're so smart, why don't they just reveal themselves to us, huh, and get it over with? Well, you know something, man, I think, you want to know what I think? I think this is a crackpot idea! That's what I think. I mean, each man - because of their technology, they are able to feed, clothe, house, and transport themselves equally and with no effort. I mean, they don't have no wars, they got no monetary system, they don't have any leaders because, I mean, each man is a leader. Except that their society is more highly evolved. Hey, man, I saw somethin', man but, I didn't see 'em workin' here. Well, you just seen one of 'em, didn't ye? And they have been livin' and workin' among us, in vast quantities, ever since. They've been comin' here ever since 1946, when the scientists first started bouncin' radar beams off of the moon. They - they -they've got bases all over the world now, you know. Me and Eric Heisman was down in Mexico two weeks ago, we seen 40 of 'em flyin' in formation.
